Annual Fire Inspection
Ohio Fire Code (OFC) 1301:7-7-01 Section 102 states that a copy of the current Certificate of Occupancy be available to the fire code official upon request. If during your annual fire inspection by the City of Alliance Fire Department, you were unable to provide a Certificate of Occupancy, please read the information below and take the appropriate action.
To conduct a commercial business, a valid Certificate of Occupancy is required by the 2017 Ohio Building Code, Section 111, as well as Chapters 3781 and 3791 of the Ohio Revised Code.
The Chief Building Official for the City of Alliance is responsible to inspect and issue a Certificate of Occupancy when existing structures/facilities are discovered to be lacking this necessary document.
A new Certificate of Occupancy is required when any of the following occur:
- Change in Use / Classification of occupancy
- Change in Ownership and/or Tenant
- Building alterations and/or renovations requiring permits
As the building owner, you have the responsibility to make an application for a Certificate of Occupancy by contacting the City of Alliance Building Department to schedule an inspection. Please contact the Alliance Building Department at 330-823-5122 within 90 days to schedule an inspection. The Building Department is open Monday - Friday/8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The typical fees associated with the Certificate of Occupancy inspection is $92.70. If you feel a Certificate of Occupancy may already exist for your business but cannot locate your copy, please contact the Building Department to verify. The Building Department will be able to assist you from that point forward.
